The initial sketch of a new painting is so exciting, so full of promise. Is the goal to hold onto the vision I have? Or is it better to let go and allow it to change, evolve and emerge?

Yes, that first stage is so exciting! Then, I'm of the the "let it go"... but then again sometimes it's the combination of vision and let it go and emerge. Which way did this lovely one go?
This was the beginning of "Banks of the Upper Dean." I think it went both ways. Maybe they all do but I still struggle with letting go - probably left over from my precise, colored pencil background.
I looked at your blog and admire the playfulness in your work.
